The new Team Green has had an incredible, exciting and fast paced semester since our beginnings in February of 2009. Since then, we have grown to more than ten members who contribute to our awareness campaigns. You can read more about our history below in anita b. green's excellent article.
Team Green topped off the year with our ice cream sandwich fundraiser. (See below) We received an extension to sell the delectable treats through Thursday much to the enjoyment of the students at Kalamalka Secondary! Through hard work and lots of marketing, we sold close to 400 ice cream sandwiches in just three days, raising $200 dollars for future education projects. Team Green members and teachers put in many hours of hard work, but we had plenty of fun!
Our year-end party on Friday, June 12th included some yummy treats brought by Team Green members. Team Green would like to thank the staff, students and teachers at Kalamalka Secondary who have made our club possible.
Have a great summer- be safe and be green! See you in September!

On June 10th, Team Green will be having a new Ice Cream Sandwich fundraiser instead of an ice cream cone day!
"I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Team Green Ice Cream" Day will now be happening over two days! On both June 9th and 10th, Team Green will be selling Ice Cream Sandwiches in both chocolate and vanilla flavors for just one dollar each! You'll love the taste- and you'll be supporting Team Green!
We apologize for cancelling our previous fundraiser but are sure that Ice Cream Sandwiches will also be a delicious way to finish up the year at Kalamalka Secondary. Stay with kalteamgreen.info for more information!

Team Green Update
Since Team Green’s re-launch in February of 2009, we have been doing so many things to start off the new Team Green! We’ve done many activities and fundraisers to promote Team Green to other people and have gained many members because of it.
One of Team Green’s very first fundraisers was inspired by Valentine’s Day. We made 300 heart-shaped (and healthy!) cookies to sell to students. These were called Cookiegrams! For only $1, students bought a cookie and a note to send to one of their friends. The day before Valentine’s Day, since Valentine’s Day was on a Saturday, we delivered the cookie and the personalized note to the special someone!
Another one of Team Green’s fabulous fundraisers was promoting the use of reusable everyday objects! We bought stainless steel water bottles with KAL written down the side! We sold these limited quantity bottles to students and teachers. The bottles sold quickly and were an immediate hit! However, we still have a few left. Come by room 118F to buy one for yourself!
Our third and most popular fundraiser among the student body was one that made the school smell absolutely delicious. This fundraiser was everyone’s favorite: popcorn. This one was all in the execution. Make the school smell good and they’ll all come to you! We had people coming to us before it was even ready to sell! This was the fastest and most successful fundraiser we’ve had!
During Earth Week (April 19th-April 25th), we did some activities to say that Earth Day was coming soon! Before School hours, we stood outside and gave garbage-free candy to students and teachers who were walking, biking, carpooling, using the bus, or any other form of environmentally friendly transportation. On Earth Day, teachers signed up their classes to go clean up the community. All of our locations were within walking distance of the school. Students went to local parks, roadways and on school grounds to clean up the litter people left behind. Many people were encouraged by the encouragement of Team Green members flying through the crowds of students cheering them on! On the Friday of Earth Week, we held a special day called “Be Seen, Wear Green”! We handed out garbage free candy to those wearing green! This was to raise awareness about the Earth and Team Green itself. We also gave out candy for litterless lunch (lots of recyclable or reusable materials in a lunch) all week!
Throughout Earth Week, some of our members visited some local elementary school classes to talk about carbon emissions. We gave each student in the class a packet of seeds courtesy of Swan Lake and their classroom got some soil and a planter to plant a packet of seeds in. We thought that this might show students how plants help our environment. We also included a fun game of tag to show the students how carbon emissions worked. This presentation in three different classrooms was a challenge from the people running the Green Earth Olympics (GEO). GEO is a competition for students where you get $100 to go make an impact on the community or in your school environmentally. We got to choose how to spend the money and that’s what we did with ours.
